What the road feels like.
Connemara is what people think Ireland looks like — bog, stone walls, mountains that fall straight into the sea. Base yourself in Clifden and ride the Sky Road first thing in the morning: an 11 km loop out along the peninsula with the Twelve Bens standing behind you and Inishturk floating off to the west.
From Clifden the N59 runs north-east under the Bens, past Kylemore Abbey, and into Leenaun on the shore of Killary — Ireland's only true fjord. Turn there and loop back through Recess. Half a day, a lifetime of pictures.
